England vs West Indies, 4th Match at Perth | Benson & Hedges Challenge 1986/87.
At Perth, January 3. England won by 19 runs. Cooler cricket at critical moments enabled England to make sure of reaching the final in the game that eliminated both West Indies and Australia. West Indies, putting England in, reduced them to 96 for five at the halfway point. But Lamb (108 balls) and Richards (63 balls) added 60 in eleven overs, and the recovery was continued through a solid effort by the bowlers. West Indies also began shakily, slipping to 104 for four when Richards mis-swept Emburey to deep square leg in the 28th over. Logie and Dujon added 74, but in the 42nd over, with only 51 runs wanted, Dujon took a needless risk in backing away to drive Dilley through the covers. Dilley took four for 7 in nineteen balls as West Indies collapsed, and an athletic diving stop by Athey at mid-on led to the running out of Harper.
Man of the Match: G. R. Dilley. Attendance: 12,000.
